How Does Sin Affect My Relationship With God?
Fight sin with Scripture, the Holy Spirit, and Christian community.
Christians can feel distant from God despite biblical promises of his nearness (e.g., John 14; the vine-and-branch image).
That distance sometimes comes from God stretching believers to pursue deeper faith, and other times from persisting in old sinful patterns or burdens that entangle spiritual life.
Scripture, the Spirit, and Christian community are the primary means God gives to address sin and restore communion: Scripture provides sufficient guidance; the Spirit leads in concert with the Word; and the church offers confession, accountability, prayer, and restoration.
