This week we will cover the last half of Act 2, scene 1 in the biblical story, taking us through the
remainder of Jacob’s story and focusing especially on the story of Joseph’s travails and triumphs
in Egypt.
Week 3: Day 1
Today’s reading is Genesis 30-33
Question:
-Genesis 32:24-32 is a difficult passage. What does this passage teach you about a relationship
with God and how blessing often comes from struggle?
Question:
-How does the context help you understand Rebekah’s actions?
Action:
-Take a moment to praise God for your family, warts and all, and to pray that God will work in
and through you as a family in spite of your weaknesses and problems.
We will follow two parallel accounts in this scene.
First, we will follow the story of Abraham and his descendants as they enter Egypt. We will also
see how God sets the stage for the creation of the nation of Israel and how the channel for the
Savior built.
Second, we will look at the story of Job and reflect on the “problem of evil.”
Week 2: Day 1
Today’s reading is Genesis 12-13
Questions:
-God promises Abraham that he will make him a great nation and bless other people through
him. How might this promise lay a foundation for the biblical emphasis on the way God’s
people should treat their enemies, a theme developed in both the Old and New Testaments?
